Wednesday 5 December: Business Basics – planning into action
Scoping out your idea, allocating tasks, sourcing resources, proposals, quotes and ensuring your income matches your expenditure with the aim of building a surplus. Explore tools for managing a micro-business and community group. Discuss funding options and how to pitch your concept to attract grants and sponsorships.
Facilitator: Melissa Robertson is an events manager, grant writer, Arts consultant, manager and community cultural development project worker.
Having supported artists and arts workers in all aspects of arts business practice from managing arts based projects, festivals and events, having been responsible for logistics, risk assessment, compliance, human resource management of employees and volunteers on many events and projects. Producer of three choirs, various festival parades and community arts projects, many people have benefited from the large-scale long term projects she initiated.
After 14 years of association with Arts Nexus, a capacity building agency supporting the arts, cultural and creative industries of far north Queensland, Melissa is now managing the next phase of this community based, NGO as is reemerges to regain it’s full functions as a key organisation. Her professional networks, partners, sponsors and colleagues span the globe and the nation. Melissa has embraced the internet and social media technology and the opportunity it brings to strategically construct a system of best practice for effective online marketing and is the Social Media campaign manager for a number of organisations.
