WHERE IT BEGAN ….
Following on from the Arts&Health stream of the 2017 National Rural Health Conference held in Cairns, the idea of a regional arts, health and well-being group was form as a way to raise the profile of the arts in the health sector as an allied practice to improve health outcomes.
On Saturday 13 June, 2017, Arts Nexus hosted a “Networking with Purpose” event together local arts and health practitioners in a focused conversation to see how the these two sectors are connected in working towards the well-being of society. Avril Duck (Tropical Arts), Velvet Eldred (then ARC Disability, now Red Cross), Gail Rogers and Katerini Manolatos (Vocal Boot Camp and Musical Odyssey) created a lively conversation, engaging the 12 practitioners who attended. The speakers were passionate and unanimously agreed they would like this group to meet to further the ideas so far expressed.
